Clinical Registries

The development of high quality clinical registries of perioperative risk and outcome is a defining project of the NIAA Health Services Research Centre.

We have partnered with the two established perioperative databases run by the Emergency Laparotomy Network (ELN) and the Hip Fracture Anaesthesia Network (HipFAN). In the short-term our shared aim is to integrate the registry elements of these database through a shared software platform, data definitions and core analysis functions. We will work with the networks to achieve this goal. Central to this will be the development of the Integrated Perioperative Network (iPON) software.

The HSRC in collaboration with the ELN submitted a "New Topic Proposal" to the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) in May 2011. We are currently awaiting the outcome of this initial application which is expected in late July.
