Travel Grants and IRC Funding
The International Relations Committee (IRC) considers applications from AAGBI members who are seeking funding for projects usually, but not exclusively, in the developing world. There is a rolling closing date to coincide with IRC meetings.

Wylie Medal Undergraduate Prize
The Wylie Medal will be awarded to the most meritorious essay on the topic of 'perioperative patient safety' written by an undergraduate medical student at a university in Great Britain or Ireland. Prizes of £500, £250 and £150 will be awarded to the best three submissions. The overall winner will receive the Wylie Medal in memory of Dr W Derek Wylie, President of the AAGBI 1980-82.

Undergraduate Elective Funding
All medical students in Great Britain and Ireland are eligible to apply to the AAGBI for funding towards a medical student elective period. Preference will be given to those applicants who can show that their intended elective has an anaesthetic, intensive care or pain relief interest. Up to £750 may be awarded.

SAS Audit & Research Prize
The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI) invites applications for the SAS Audit and Research Prize. This is exclusively for SAS doctors to encourage them to undertake research and audit. Entries will be judged by the Research & Grants Committee of the AAGBI. All SAS doctors who are members of the AAGBI are eligible to apply for the prize.

GAT Oral and Poster Prizes
Trainee anaesthetists are invited to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation at the GAT ASM in Oxford on 3-5 April 2013.

Submission guidelines, the submission form for abstracts, an abstract template, and scoring guides for abstracts and posters can be downloaded from the AAGBI website.

After the deadline, a preliminary review of the abstracts received will determine which ones are to be accepted for presentation at the GAT ASM. Authors will be contacted via email to tell them if their abstracts have been accepted.

Closing date for submissions: Monday 14 January 2013.


The Anaesthesia History Prize
The Association of Anaesthetists and the History of Anaesthesia Society will award a cash prize for an original essay on a topic related to the history of anaesthesia, intensive care or pain management written by a trainee member of the Association.

The £1,000 cash prize and an engraved medal will be awarded for the best entry. The winner will be invited to present the paper at the GAT Annual Scientific Meeting in Oxford, 3 - 5 April 2013. Certificates of merit will be awarded to other entries of high standard.

SAS Travel Grant
The AAGBI invites applications for the SAS Travel Grant. This grant (up to a maximum of £2000) is exclusively given for SAS doctors to visit a place of excellence of their choice for two weeks. Please note that this is not meant for attending a meeting or a conference. Entries will be judged by the SAS Committee of the AAGBI. All SAS doctors who are members of the AAGBI are eligible to apply for this grant.
