Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists (ACTA) Project Grants

Aim
This grant is intended to support a Research Project to be undertaken in Great Britain or Ireland in a subject related to cardiothoracic anaesthesia. Applicants need not be members of ACTA

The support
The grant is worth up to £10,000. The money can be used to purchase equipment, to fund or part-fund a salary for medical, scientific or technical personnel, or for other support. If the grant is to be used to support a salary, the employer is responsible for ensuring that appropriate health checks are made according to local occupational health guidelines and that the employee carries appropriate professional indemnity.

Report
The applicant will be required to submit an interim account of the progress and results of the research when the project is concluded, and no more than 2 years after payment of the award has been made.

How to apply

  1. Complete the application form.
  2. Use sheets of plain A4 paper to provide the following information. Head each page with the applicant's name and page number (starting with Page 2).

    1. A description of the research project in 1500 to 2000 words using 12pt Times Roman font. Use the following headings:

        Title
        Aims
        Background
        Experimental design and methods including statistical considerations and power analysis where appropriate
        References

    2. A list of the resources which will be required and which will be provided by the Host Institution. Use the following headings:

        Equipment
        Laboratory space (if relevant)
        Estimated running costs
        Ethics committee approval
        Animal facilities, including licence number and project number (if relevant)
        Any resources still to be obtained and not yet funded

    3. Justification for support requested.
    4. Details of grant requested (Appendix 1)
    5. Brief CV of the Applicant

  3. Ensure that the appropriate financial administrative officer of the Host Institution has signed the confirmation section of the application form.
